BT3-Decompiled is a matching decompilation of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the PlayStation 2, USA release: the game's code rewritten as C that compiles, with the developers' compiler, to exactly the bytes on the disc. Per the README, 99.92% of the main program and 99.97% of the menu program are in matching C. It is In Progress.

How to build it

  1. Place your own disc image in the repository's top folder under the file name the README gives, which configure.py looks for.
  2. Install 7z, ninja and Python 3 with splat, and put Sony's ee-gcc 2.96 and the matching binutils in the tools folder; configure.py lists the exact paths.
  3. Build, then compare the rebuilt main and menu programs with the ones on your disc; they should be identical.

About this project

The only code left in assembly in the main program is four routines the game's authors wrote in assembly themselves, VU0 vector-unit code; the menu program has none. A progress script prints the current numbers. As of Oct 18, 2026, no Budokai Tenkaichi 3 PC port meets Recompedia's inclusion rules, so the decompilation builds PS2 files only.

FAQ

How complete is the Budokai Tenkaichi 3 decompilation?

Per the README, 99.92% of the main program, SLUS_216.78, and 99.97% of the menu program are in matching C. The remainder is four hand-written VU0 routines.

Is there a Budokai Tenkaichi 3 PC port?

None is listed on Recompedia as of Oct 18, 2026. BT3-Decompiled rebuilds the PS2 files.

Does Recompedia provide the game, ROM or BIOS?

No. Recompedia does not host or link to ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files or game assets. BT3-Decompiled ships no game code or data either; it needs a disc image made from a copy of the game you own.
