KillzoneRecomp is a native Windows port of Killzone, made by statically recompiling the game's PS2 code to C++ with PS2Recomp; PCSX2's hardware renderer, microVU, IPU and SPU2 are linked in as libraries. It is In Progress as a test build: boot, menus, profile creation and the first mission's gameplay are verified in automated runs.

How to play

  1. Make a disc image of your own NTSC-U Killzone disc, SCUS-97402.
  2. Clone the repository with its submodules and add the dependencies the README lists: PCSX2's source, its Windows dependencies and SDL3.
  3. Extract SCUS_974.02 from your disc image into the game folder, build the recompiler, then run the regeneration script, which writes about 20,000 C++ files.
  4. Build the project; the result is killzone.exe.

Story (via IGDB, in English)

During the era of space exploration, a faction of humans colonized the planet Helghan. In order to survive in the harsh environment, these people mutated to the point of no longer remaining human. They developed a passionate hatred for mankind, and eventually formed the Helghast Empire, attacking the planet Vekta controlled by the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA). As Helghast soldiers invade the planet's perimeter, the ISA forces are trying to hold the ground and find a way to stop them.

About this project

It runs at the monitor's refresh rate: about 117 to 120 fps at 120 Hz in gameplay, with the frame timer rescaled so the game clock stays real-time. Mouse aim is an engine patch with rebindable keys, and controllers work through SDL3. Graphics go up to 8x internal resolution at native 16:9 on D3D11, D3D12 or Vulkan. Building needs Visual Studio 2022, CMake, Ninja, Python 3 and a CPU with AVX2. Killzone Online is not included, and the README notes the project was developed with AI assistance.
