God of War II Recompiled
God of War II is the second game brought up by PS2 Web Recomp, after Gran Turismo 4. Its Emotion Engine code is translated to C++ ahead of time, compiled to WebAssembly and drawn with WebGPU; a native Linux runner is built from the same output. The project is In Progress, and the game needed no game-specific code.

About the game
God of War II, an action-adventure hack-and-slash video game, was developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). Initially launched for the PlayStation 2, it serves as the second installment in the God of War series, the sixth in chronological order, and a sequel to 2005's God of War. The game is rooted in Greek mythology and unfolds in ancient Greece, revolving around the theme of vengeance. The protagonist, Kratos, is the new God of War, having defeated the former, Ares. However, Kratos is betrayed by Zeus, the King of the Olympian gods, who not only strips him of his godhood but also kills him. Dragged slowly to the Underworld, Kratos is rescued by the Titan Gaia, who guides him to seek out the Sisters of Fate. These entities have the power to enable time travel, allowing Kratos to prevent his betrayal, and ultimately seek revenge on Zeus.

About this project
Per the README, God of War II went from an ISO to a page with only generic changes, but each change fixed a bug or gap Gran Turismo 4 had never exercised. It started with silence: the game's sound driver ticks from one of the I/O processor's hardware timers, which nothing had implemented. It also needed a boot path like the BIOS provides, a module loaded from memory instead of the disc and another DMA mode. A separate project, god-of-war-recomp, is a native Windows port of the first God of War.
FAQ
Can God of War II run in a browser?
Yes, through PS2 Web Recomp, which is In Progress. The page is built on your machine from your own disc image and needs WebGPU: Chrome or Edge on Windows and macOS, or Chrome on Linux with WebGPU flags turned on.
Is there a native God of War II PC port?
PS2 Web Recomp builds a native runner for Linux. There is no Windows-specific God of War II port on this list; the Windows recomp covers the first God of War.
Does Recompedia provide the game, ROM or BIOS?
No. Recompedia does not host or link to ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files or game assets. PS2 Web Recomp ships no game code or data either; it needs a disc image made from a copy of the game you own.
