Every N64 Recomp You Can Play in 2026
Published Oct 18, 2026 · 1 min

Where it started
The Nintendo 64 has the deepest recompilation scene of any console, and that is mostly down to one tool: N64Recomp, which turns an N64 binary into C that compiles into a native program. Zelda64Recompiled proved the approach in 2024 with a native port of Majora's Mask for Windows, Linux and macOS, drawn by the RT64 renderer with widescreen and high frame rates.
Since then the same route has produced Star Fox 64, Pokemon Snap, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, each shipping ready-made builds that read your own cartridge dump.
What is playable today
Of the recompilations, Zelda64Recompiled, Starfox64Recomp, Snap64Recomp and Conker BFD Reloaded are marked Playable. Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is in progress, aiming to stabilize real gameplay. Ocarina of Time has been announced by the Zelda64Recompiled team but not released.
Alongside them stand the ports built from decompilations: Ship of Harkinian for Ocarina of Time, SpaghettiKart for Mario Kart 64 and sm64-port for Super Mario 64. Players call both kinds N64 recomps; the difference is whether the code was translated automatically or reconstructed by hand.

What each one needs
The recompiled ports need a GPU with Direct3D 12 Shader Model 6, Vulkan 1.2 or Metal Argument Buffers Tier 2; a GeForce GT 630 or Radeon HD 7750 is enough. Most accept one specific ROM: Star Fox 64 takes only the US 1.1 Rev A dump, Conker checks your ROM's SHA-1, and Majora's Mask asks for the North American version.
Every project here ships without game assets and refuses to run until you provide a cartridge you own.
The wider picture
Long-running decompilations of Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007, Paper Mario and Perfect Dark keep feeding the scene. The full, current list, with status and last commit for each row, lives on the N64 platform page here.
Recompedia does not host or link to ROMs, BIOS files or game assets. Every project listed requires a copy of the original game owned by the player.
