A native Ocarina of Time port

Ship of Harkinian, from Harbour Masters, is the best-known Ocarina of Time PC port. Release 9.3.1 is marked Playable on Recompedia and supports Windows, macOS and Linux. Rather than running the N64 executable inside an emulator, the project builds a native program from the zeldaret/oot decompilation.

That distinction matters. The decompilation reconstructs the game's source code; Ship of Harkinian turns that source into a desktop port. A separate static recompilation of Ocarina of Time has been announced by the Zelda64Recompiled team but has not been released, so the two projects are at different stages.

Check the game copy first

The Ship does not include copyrighted assets. Before setting it up, you need a supported Ocarina of Time ROM dumped from a cartridge you own. The project's quick-start guide links to its compatibility checker, which validates the specific dump; the README also describes checking the ROM's SHA-1 manually.

After verifying the file, download the build for your computer from the project's GitHub releases page. On first launch, choose the supported copy when prompted. The port extracts the required assets from it. Save files, settings and the o2r resource file are stored locally in the application's data folder.

Graphics and platform differences

Ship of Harkinian supports DirectX 11 on Windows, OpenGL across platforms and Metal on macOS. The graphics API is selected in the settings menu, so the best option depends on your operating system and hardware. The project also provides builds for playtesting, separate from its tagged releases.

This is a fan-made project and is not affiliated with Nintendo. Its README says Harbour Masters does not condone piracy; the game itself is never included.

How it fits the Zelda PC scene

Ocarina of Time now sits alongside Zelda64Recompiled's announced recompilation of the same game, the playable Majora's Mask recompilation, Dusklight's Twilight Princess port, and the in-progress Wind Waker decompilation. The projects use different technical routes, but each requires the player to provide their own game copy.
