RSDKv4 Decompilation runs the 2013 Retro Engine remaster of Sonic 1 on Android and desktop systems. It reconstructs the engine and menus rather than recompiling a Genesis binary. Release 1.3.3 includes an Android package, but the game still needs remaster assets from a legally obtained copy.

How to build it

  1. Obtain the Sonic 1 remaster datapack from your own official release, following the asset guide linked in the repository README. A Genesis ROM will not work.
  2. Download v4-android.zip from the official RSDKv4-Decompilation 1.3.3 release and follow the project's Android installation instructions.
  3. Supply the matching game data. For a source build, follow dependencies/android/README.md with Android Studio and the NDK.

Game version you need

  • Legally obtained Sonic 1 2013 Retro Engine remaster assets, or compatible Origins datapacks; Genesis/Mega Drive ROMs are not inputs.

Hardware & system

  • Android release package v4-android.zip; supply the matching game datapack
  • Android Studio/NDK and documented dependencies for optional source builds

About this project

The official README describes a complete decompilation of Retro Engine v4 and the Sonic 1 and 2 (2013) menus. Sonic 1 uses its own assets even though both games share this repository and Android release package. These rows therefore count as two games and one project repository.

Release 1.3.3, published November 2, 2025, fixes inputs with mobile datapacks, crashes with Origins data and several gameplay/menu issues. This is published release evidence, not a claim of independent Android device testing. The removed screen-width limit can expose ultrawide issues without decompiled scripts.

Use supported mobile or Origins data as the README explains. Origins Plus DLC is locked in release builds; the project documents source builds for enabling it. No Genesis or Mega Drive executable is translated by this port.

FAQ

Can I use a Genesis ROM?

No. This project needs the 2013 Retro Engine remaster assets or supported Origins datapacks, not the original console ROM.

Is there an Android download?

Yes. The official 1.3.3 release includes v4-android.zip. It is an engine package and still needs your own game data.

Does Recompedia provide the game or its assets?

No. Recompedia does not host or link to game assets. Supply the required data from a legally obtained copy of the game; the project download does not replace that copy.
